CSS adds familiar icon to its staff

Ed McPherson, left, and Chuck Nease show off two of the company’s latest developments – the "All American" bow series and the "LT” idler.
SALT ROCK, W.V., Nov. 14, 2002 – President and CEO of Custom Shooting Systems (CSS), Chuck Nease, announced Ed McPherson as vice president on Nov. 1, as part of the company's newly established five-year growth plan. In addition to McPherson's marketing and sales duties, he also will play a key part in new bow design and oversee new business on an international scale.

Established in 1995 by Chuck Nease, CSS is a bow manufacturer primarily known for competition-grade, custom-built bows with needle-threading accuracy, and a good combination of speed and easy-of-shooting. Bows are hand-built one at a time by Nease himself or by other former IBO/ASA champions.

Recognizing product popularity on the 3-D tournament trail, Nease said that he decided that it was time to make a solid move toward growth and tap other markets. Nease revealed his plan was to get a rough growth plan together that included a well-known entity within the archery industry. This is where McPherson came into the picture.

“I am extremely happy to have such an elite archery icon like Ed aboard our team," said former IBO champion and Triple Crown winner Chuck Nease. "The dynamic expertise that Ed brings to the table is just what we need to make CSS seen as a major player.

"CSS is already well know among competitive shooters, we just need some help getting the word out about our premium product to hunters here in the U.S. and archers in other countries. And, I think Ed is just the help that we need."

McPherson, 35, of Knoxville, Tenn., is no rookie in the archery world. His impressive resume notes previous ties with Mathews Inc., and High Country Archery as their former president. Not only has McPherson contributed to the success of some high-profile companies, he also is an accomplished 3-D tournament archer with several victories under his belt.

"Archery is my life and this is the most excited I have been about the sport in several years," McPherson said. "During our first meeting, Chuck gave me a bow to shoot for a few weeks and then he presented me with his business plan. After shooting the bow and seeing the plan, I knew then there was a good possibility this could all work out for everyone, including the sport of archery itself."

The company had several meeting over several months to polish the five-year growth plan to finalize McPherson's ties and duties, he said.

"We are looking forward to adding key people to our staff as the company grows and reaches its full potential," McPherson noted. "By combining a great product and a solid business plan with the right people, the future looks promising for CSS and our dealer network.

"The end result of all this preliminary work is the makings of a top-shelf bow company with secured financial support. We have the opportunity to grow exponentially for the next several years, reaching markets where CSS has never been heard of – I'm anxious to get started," McPherson added.
