SALT
ROCK, W.V., Jan. 17, 2003 Custom Shooting Systems (CSS), manufacturer
of top-notch competition and hunting bows, introduced at the 2003 Archery Trade
Association (ATA) show the Solid LT Idler wheel.
The
idler wheel of a single-cam bow is the most overlooked component with
respect to accuracy. A single-track idler is the only component within
single-cam technology that is always moving to a different position after
each shot. During the shot, the bow’s string will slip across the
idler’s track, causing the idler not to rotate back to its original
starting position. If an idler is not perfectly round, variances will
occur with the nocking-point index (vertical plane) and the center-shot
index (horizontal plane). It is the same thing as randomly moving the
nocking point up or down, and the arrow rest left or right, in small
increments.
Most
bow manufacturers make their idlers out of aluminum plate stock with a CNC
milling machine. Final assembly of these idlers is with the addition of
either two bushings or radial roller bearings. Exact tolerances and
perfect alignment is nearly impossible to achieve and maintain with this
method.
The
Solid LT Idler is built with a precision-turning CNC lathe, from
round aluminum stock to achieve exact dimensions, resulting in a perfectly
round shape. The idlers are assembled using a one-piece Teflon bushing
with a compression spacer, which guarantees a tight fit and perfect
alignment shot after shot.
The
solid idler design is heavier than idlers with cutouts, better matching
the weight of the cam, which allows the limbs to recover at the same time
for less shock and oscillation. This greatly improves the bow’s
performance and accuracy.
All
CSS bows equipped with the perimeter-weighted single cam feature the Solid
LT Idler as standard issue.
CSS
is offering an Accuracy Conversion kit featuring the Solid LT Idler and
required parts to upgrade older CSS bows and bows built by other
manufacturers.
