New 'World Record Book' has risen
Could mean less scoring restrictions

Over the past few years, most of the bow manufacturers are increasingly making bows with higher let-offs than 65%. And there are an increasing number of hunters that have been shut out of the various scoring systems and can't get their trophies registered. That's the reason World Classics was formed, to accommodate those hunters that would like to record their animals that they have taken.

World Classics CEO, Dan Stapleton says that we will allow all methods of harvest just as long as they meet the "Fair Chase Rules" for deer. That means that all compounds, old or new, will be accepted.

The criteria for Whitetail deer under the World Classics' System is a minimum score of 120 inches, no deductions, and the widest outside spread will be counted.

Stapleton says, “The outside spread is listed by most scoring systems as a supplemental score (recorded, but not used), but World Classics will count the outside spread as part of the true score of the animal.” Here is a comparison to some of the other systems:

The John Parks buck (The Buck Stops Here) listed on the World Classics website netted 130 2/8 (Missed Ohio Big Bucks by 9 6/8 inches) and was taken with a crossbow. This Buck was re-scored by World Classics and is now scored at 157 3/8.

The Les Loranzan Jr. buck (My Second Trophy Buck) also listed on the World Classics website netted 137 4/8 inches (currently scored and listed in Pope &Young) and was taken with a recurve bow. This Buck was re-scored by World Classics and is now scored at 150 6/8 inches.

Stapleton says that “These are just a couple examples, there are trophies out there that will no doubt qualify for some of the other systems, but this system will give the trophy its highest score.

Just think of all the hunters out there that have a buck that’s in the 120s or 130s that won’t qualify for any of the current systems. We are here to change that.”

ATTENTION ALL TURKEY HUNTERS! Why is World Classics placing the Wild Turkey into their records system?

World Classics CEO says that currently there are only a few small records systems that score and record the wild turkey. World Classics wanted to elevate the wild turkey to the position that is held by the other animals around the world that are currently being scored and recorded. Turkey has become very popular and avid hunters that hunt the turkey need to have a place where they will be able to record their trophies.

World Classics criteria to enter Turkey into their system will be a minimum of 13 ½ inches overall gross score. Why has World Classics started with 13 ½ inches gross score for wild turkey? World Classics set the minimum for a turkey beard at 11 inches and each turkey spur at 1 ¼ inches each, totaling 13 ½ inches gross score.

The turkey can be scored soon after the kill, when the turkey has been mounted, or after it has been skinned, just as long as the feet are attached to the skin.

Stapleton says that this is a respectable gross score and puts the class of "turkey” into the same elevated category as the other recognized species.

At this time World Classics will only recognize the Eastern wild turkey, by any legal method of kill. World Classics will also be working to record all other species of turkey and will separate hunters into classes. World Classics will also have classes for multiple beards.

World Classics has decided that they will not try to calculate the weight of the turkey into the gross score because most states don’t weigh their birds. This will be less hassle to the hunter that has to get a turkey weighed and certified.

“We want the hunter to be remembered for not only their trophies, but for their experiences of the hunt," said Stapleton. "that’s why we are asking every hunter that has an entry to write their 'story of the hunt' and we will present these stories along with a picture of the animal taken into our trophy gallery on the World Classics website”.

Every hunter has a story to tell about how they have taken their animal. Some stories will be textbook, others will be very funny, and all will tell the story from the heart and mind of the hunter.

Many hunters also can learn from the experiences of others. We will also send information on how to write your story if you are having trouble trying to remember what went on during the hunt, (World Classics Hunting Story Hints).

"This is exciting! There are hundreds of stories out there that will come from ordinary hunters, they'll get their chance to tell their story and we'll print it for them and in their own words", said Stapleton. “I can promise that we will try hard to keep this system as prestigious as Pope and Young, Boone and Crockett, Safari Club, Buck Masters, and others. We here at World Classics have some pretty big shoes to fill or follow and we are up for the challenge. We aren’t here to replace any of these other systems, but are merely promoting the long standing tradition of recording animals that need to be in a records system. When our scorers are measuring animals and entering them, World Classics will promote the idea that the record go into the other systems if the hunter wants to enter them. And in turn, we would hope the other systems would do the same.”

World Classics needs the help from the ordinary sporting enthusiast, hunter, and record holder. We need entries from all of you that have deer hanging on your walls that have never been scored. We need entries that have been scored by some of the other systems, so that you may share them with other entries here at World Classics.

Most hunters want to enter their trophy into as many systems as they qualify for. We’ll need a copy of you score sheet, a photo of your entry, your story of the hunt, and your $25 entry fee.

We are also looking for help from the ordinary sporting enthusiast or hunter that wants to join our organization as a member. The annual membership fee is $25 and some of their membership fee will be earmarked towards helping get the organization off the ground and to also get the World Classics Grants programs started.

The World Classics CEO says that these grants will go toward outreach programs for the youth handicapped hunter, education scholarships, and conservation.
