Become
a limb, become a leaf, become invisible
Has a deer ever
spotted you while sitting in a tree stand? Or have you ever been caught
turning your head or body to get a better look or shot at the deer? Are
you afraid to hunt on the ground because you will stick out like a sore
thumb? There is a solution to these problems – it’s called Leafy Wear.
It is possibly the
greatest thing since the invention of the bow and arrow. I had an old
leafy-wear coat given to me a couple of years ago and at the time I really
didn’t think that it was a great idea. The thought of leaves in the way
and all that didn’t appeal to me, until the day I hung it on a branch in
the woods and looked at it from a distance. I thought, what a joke.
Apparently, the joke was on me.

Chuck Pensyl, of
Outdoor Magic, sent me a video about the Leafy Wear clothes. After
watching the video, it gave me pause to reconsider my skepticism. Now
there are a lot of leafy type things to buy, from tape to pin-on leaves
and even leaf-and-branch combinations to attach to tree stands. So being
French and left handed, with a last name of Champoux, I am at a serious
disadvantage. So, I resisted the urge to order any thing that I could
foul-up. But then along came Pensyl.
Pensyl and I e-mailed
back and forth until he finally convinced me to give Leafy Ware a try. I
will admit, I was skeptical but agreed to give the camo system a shot (pun
intended).
Once I got the suit,
I hung it on a branch and walked away about 30 yards out and turned
around. Wow! No silhouette, nothing about the suit stood out even though
it was just tan colored with black and brown lines. I could not detect,
see anything with an image, or make out anything resembling a shape or
form.

I still was not quite
sure what I thought about the Leafy system. So I put on the suit and
attempted to shoot my bow. To my amazement, the bowstring passed easily
without interference, and I even hit the target! For me, this was a big
step in accepting the product.
Personally, the real
test is in the fields and woods, not in the back yard. Moving forward with
the “real test,” I headed out to my blind in the deer woods.
Late that evening a
pretty nice buck came within about 35-plus yards – not the shot for me.
But it was a chance to try out the suit. I purposely moved my head and
body from side to side just to see how the deer would react. The buck
didn’t seem to mind; he just kept walking, lifting his head once in a
while but never spooked. He slowly walked away until he finally
disappearing into the woods.
About sunset, I
walked into a field and sat in some tall grass over looking two game
trails. As the sun was lowering over the distant horizon, a flock of geese
was flying about 20 feet off the deck of the field. More and more geese
just kept coming and landing just yards away from where I was sitting.
Obviously the suit had me covered up pretty well for this to happen.
So
geese what – Leafy Wear products work! It a Leafy suit a try, you
won’t be disappointed.
