Talon

The CSS Talon is considered to be the low-end bow.  But no corners are cut on quality and performance.

During the Summer of 2000, I was browsing the archery ads on www.archery.net and came across a CSS Swampmaster (older model Swampmaster, now called the Talon) single cam bow.

The price wasn't bad and after all, I've always wanted to shoot one, so I made the purchase.

The used bow was in fine condition and I was very impressed with the craftsmanship and overall look of the bow.

The bow was equipped with a BCY Dynaflight-97 string and cable, and a set of Limb Savers.  I replaced and repositioned the Limb Savers, and set the bow up with a Bodoodle arrow rest, Toxonics sights, hydraulic stabilizer, sling and a nock loop.

Going against my better judgment, I decided to get some new arrows, since I had a new bow.  I matched up with a dozen Gold Tip 5575 XT Hunters cut at 26.5 inches.  The moment was here, the event that I had waited years for had finally arrived.

While shooting indoors at 20 yards, I managed to sight-in the bow in no time.  This is one of the smoothest shooting bows I have ever shot.  Within three weeks I had two Robin Hoods and had to replace several nocks.  I had to start shooting the arrows at different targets, which something that I normally do not do because of my unique target panic.

I ended up hunting with the bow during the 2000 season and I never missed!  In a nutshell, I am truly impressed with the bow overall.  If you have a local dealer for CSS and you are in the market for a new bow, I highly recommend that you at least give one a trial run.
