Have you thought about getting into
3-D competition but don't want to spend the money or don't have the
time? Save yourself $1,000, spend $24.95 with Walk Technology and
you can have all the 3-D shooting you want from the comfort of your home at
your computer. Over the past several years, many computer
hunting and fishing software games have hit the market. Early games
were just that games. Today with the development of faster
and more powerful computers, PC-based outdoor software has turned to
focus more on reality and, in some cases, serve as training tools. PC
Archery, from Walk Technology, is no exception. This high tech software
teaches distance judging and shot placement while remaining fun and
extremely realistic.
 |
| The calibration utility
is the key to realistic target sizing. Following the instructions,
it takes about 10 seconds to set up. |
You are probably wondering "how can a piece of software teach or improve ones ability to judge
distance?" I wondered the same
thing. After I saw how the program works, it is really quite
simple.
The program has a calibration utility that
configures target sizing. This feature is the key to how
realistic the targets look, with respect to distance, during a session of
shooting. The purpose is to
create the illusion that the targets actually appear "x" amount
of yards away. If you were to set up a 3-D target at 40 yards in your back
yard, the size of the target would be the same in
PC Archery with a virtual distance of 40 yards. Of course, this is
assuming the dimensions of the real target and the virtual dimensions of
the PC Archery target are the same.
 |
| The program gives you
the view of actually shooting a bow. Just an extra feature to
help with shot placement. |
Another nice feature of
PC Archery is the training of shot placement on deer targets. The program
can be set to only present deer targets and will do so at various
angles (quartering shots) simulating actual hunting scenarios. I have been bow
hunting now for 16 years and it has even taught me a thing or two about shot
placement. The program itself is very dynamic with respect
to level of play. There are six preset levels and a custom level
that can be configured to fit any archer's experience level. Maximum
distance, number of targets, target type and even the environment can be
individually set. This flexibility doesn't just end with the course
set-up. You can also configure the program to match your own bow's
characteristics including arrow speed, pin gap, sight style, bow
appearance and even bow sound. Left-handed archers need not to worry there is setting to switch the bow from right-handed to
left-handed. This amazing program has too many function and set-up features to list, I would be writing for days trying to explain
everything.
 |
| There are tools
available to aid you in becoming a better shooter such as a range
finder and vitals map. |
PC Archery will never be able to replace the
enjoyment of being outdoors and shooting a real bow, nor is it intended
for that reason. However, it will maintain and improve our skills in
several areas during the off season. This archery training tool is
both serious and fun addiction is guaranteed. All age and skill sets are
welcome. Play by yourself for practice or in multi-player mode for a
tournament.Retail Price: $24.95 Contact
