Every year it never fails, archers are faced with countless new products guaranteed to bring them better success. I will be the first one to admit, new toys are very inviting and I often give in to the bells and whistles of new technology. Unfortunately, many of these so-called new products are items from the past with a new facelift. And, they really do nothing with respect to producing better success. Here is a product that does NOT fall into the category described above.
According to my web site traffic stats, 1,000s upon 1,000s of you viewers read my
review article about the SCAT JS release. Judging by the amount of e-mail I received about the write-up, many of you seem to show great interest in the product. For those of you who purchased the SCAT JS, I am 100 percent confident that it has served you well and ultimately made you a better shot.
For those of you T-handle release shooters who felt left out due to the fact that the SCAT JS resembles the traditional caliper release; this is your lucky day. SCAT just recently hatched out a new T-handle model – the SCAT TJS.
Though the SCAT JS is still my favorite, because I like index-finger triggered caliper releases, the TJS has managed to earn a spot in my release rotation during my practice sessions. The TJS just adds a refreshing change in feel that I sometimes need.
The TJS has the same hydraulic system and functions the exact same way as the JS, only in a T-handle body. The TJS can be used with the on-board rope loop or it can be ignored and used with the ever so popular on-the-bowstring D-loop. I personally use the D-loop method and it works great.
The automatic “surprise” trigger is easily adjustable from 0 to 6 seconds (will vary with temperature). All you need to do is find the setting that works best for you. Personally, I like a 2- to 3-second firing delay. Every once in a while I will change it slightly, just to keep myself guessing. Just like the JS, theoretically, you could hunt with this release. By setting the delay to 0, you would have total control of the shot. All you would need to do is draw your bow, aim, and remove your thumb from the trigger. Boom! You’ve just filled your freezer with venison.
The engineering put into the TJS is of stellar proportions and falls just about a inch short of advanced rocket science. The 7075 aluminum body and stainless steel parts are built like a reinforce Sherman tank and will withstand anything you can dish out to it day after day. Every time I place the release in my hand I am still amazed at the craftsmanship; it’s a true work of art. In the big picture and more importantly, it’s a contribution to archery.
A note to you competitive shooters, this release is the real deal. If you’re in the market for a new release, I urge you to take a closer look at the TJS. Though I cannot tell you by using the TJS that your scores will sky rocket to a champion level, I can tell you that you will shoot more relaxed. Which should ultimately improve your game.
And for you bow hunters out there; this is the perfect way to permanently cure your target panic that you probably think you don’t have. If you are looking for a change in style or just looking to try something new, this is it – the SCAT TJS.
