I have shot many sights over my
40+ years of shooting and I love “x-hairs”. Timberline sums up the cross
hair sights advantages very well. To quote “Timberline crosshairs have many
advantages over pin sights — they help to stop bow cant — they line up the
bow vertical with the animal legs — they help you pick a spot on an animal
— the easily allow for proper sighting by lining up with the front legs and
horizontally dissecting the lower third of the body."
That works for me and says a lot for taking out rights and lefts.
Another good discussion point is
the size of the fiber end. The
folks at Timberline point out that most fiber ends are only 0.65 inch whereas
most pins block out an area about 0.80 inch. The Timberline x-hairs are 0.16
inch the smallest in the industry. I have used them for many years and loved
them, but I lost my Timberline sites while in the process of moving.
So a new pair was in order and I recently received them.
When I received the sights, the
fiber optic hairs were installed. All
I had to do was install the site on my bow and make sight pin adjustments.
Well, I decided to mount the bracket while outdoors. My standard
operating procedure is to drop at least one thing, and this time was no
different. I am good at dropping
things. I dropped the body of the
sight directly on a rock. Yet, when I picked it up nothing was loose, broken
or damaged. The x-hairs did
not move or come loose. It passed
the “Champoux Test”. If there
is a way to break something — I will find it.
A nice feature is the hex-tube
wrench that fits over the nut that adjusts the pins. Just put it on the nut to
loosen or tighten the nut that moves the vertical and horizontal fiber optic
hairs. The small wrench is silver so when I drop it, it shows up in the grass
or leaves — another nice feature.
The sight is not so big as to be
cumbersome but not so small as to be too hard to see. My eyes adjusted to it nicely.
More and more the experts tell archers to frame the sight body in the
peep sight; a large sight is hard to do that. Timberline products seem to
frame very well. The company makes two models, one with a standard bracket and
one with a dove tail mount, you choose.

Final comments
I found the sight easy to set up, easy to use and easy to sight in. The
construction is of high quality and as rugged as mountain peaks. It points as
well as the timber tops does to the skies. The contrast of its fiber
crosshairs can pin point like an eagle eye on a rabbit. The one thing I would
like to see them do is to somehow attach their hex wrench to the sight so I
cannot possibly lose it. So look to the mountain for Timberline Archery
Products. Their products are RIGHT UP THERE in quality, dependability and
visibility.
